Hi Folks,  It seems like I've stalled out on the O scale machine shop for now so I've decided to work on the logging "show" over on my hon3 layout. The log harvesting portion of the layout has always been dominated by a model of the Crown Willamette Paper Company's tower skidder designated No.3.
I built this model many years ago after seeing a fantastic brass model by a Swiss(?) gentleman in the "NGSG" maybe 1987. The story by Bill Roy included the info that Bill had drawn a fairly complete set of plans for this monster. I was hooked !!.  On a trip to Caboose Hobbies I found the plans and had a long but enjoyable build.
As Jacq01 put it so well (in the Logging Project topic) I am also a 'kitchen table modeler". I have no skill to machine gears and drums so my model has all the parts of the real thing but maybe not the exact number of teeth on a gear or the same rivet pattern on all pieces. When ever possible i "kitbashed".
I will post a bunch of pictures on where it stands now and this thread will deal with adding more support items for the skidder and finishing the surrounding area more to match some really good photos of the utter devastation that these machines caused.     .....Thanks,   Randy

Fantastic modelling, brass / styrene/ use of other kits ????
Did you see rivets during you sleep when building.  You made these individually ?

I still have the article in one of the old swiss magazines. An amazing but especially very very large model.

Thanks Jacq and Marty,  Coming from you guys that is high praise indeed!  Jacq.. I did not take photos back then but maybe can explain basics of build ....

The basic car body is kitbashed from two Tichy Company 120 ton crane kits. I used this kit because of the great rivet detail on the frame. From the frame up most  everything else is built up from styrene, brass and a lot!!! of white metal detail parts.....
