Well Im in to it now with no turning back - base boards ordered - purchased the rail - ordered the turn out motors and sorted the mechanisms/chassis out for the battery box locos - All started when I read a copy of the "Narrow Gauge & Industrial Review no' 89 "and later at a model railway show last year Steve Bells 16mm to the foot mining display The ADIT - impressive ! and all done on a shelf only 9"wide with 2 - 3ft boards and a fiddle yard 30ins long
I'v made a start with a small machine shop which will house a lathe /milling /boring machines the other side will be benches and storage shelves / cupboards - a few shots of the start
Mt Albert scale timer used
scale size of workshop 10ft x18ft Base board with floor beams marked out
Barney
Cool!
"Gold Mine with no name" works for me. There was a Clint Eastwood movie "The Man with No Name" you can use as inspiration.
A shot of the Workshop "so-far"- machines and shelving all at undercoat stage - floor has been changed to a rough concrete - track is not used a lot now more for a hand cart type of thing for engine blocks and materials
Barney
Looks good!
I'd kill to have that equipment!
But, that rail is a major trip issue!
May be some wood slat areas in front of the work areas?
I would think the tops of the rails would have been flush. ???
-Marty
I love those magnificent sceneries, please keep it up.
Trip issue - you should look were you are going !! boards on the shopping list
Barney
Great start Barney. Those machines are beautiful.
Jerry
Gee, that's starting out nicely, isn't it? -- Russ
Those beefed up nicely Barney :D :D :D
Barney what scale is this??
Jerry
Jerry - scale is 16mm = 1ft - track gauge is 32mm 2ft gauge. The mine workshop is small 18ft x 10ft - the machines started life as 1/24 scale (big machines in this scale) but after a long term in storage decided to up the scale to 16mm by beefing them up a bit. Extra lego blocks on the base of lathe and a few changed handles and bits
Barney
Long way to go
loads of bits to round up
Nice start.
Thanks for the information Barney. This is a great project. just love these mine things.
Jerry
The wooden building was sold at the weekend along with some of the machines so it looks like Im back to square one with this project - a new start is required this time in 1/35th scale
Barney
In other words, "The king is dead. Long live the king!" -- Russ
Started work on the 1/35th version with a few bits of mining machinery all will be in an abandoned state and overgrown with weeds
fist shot of a battery box loco minus its battery - frames ready for detailing waiting for new stocks of bolts/nuts and rivets
Barney
view of brake gear and motor and gearboxes
the start of the EIMCO shovel - a true bit of dangerous equipment I defiantly would not like to be down a tunnel with it !
The right-hand side, with all the hardware, looks wonderful so far. -- Russ
Awesome! I really like that shovel (aka "mucker").
A start on the mine stores - a converted shorty box car with additional buildings added - the box is built from Evergreen styrene the first photos show the concrete floor made from plaster but latter changed to a styrene version.
Barney
Progress made (although 2 steps forward and one back) shelving and assorted boxes /tins and junk
Pleasingly adequate. -- Russ
some of the bits for the shelves
and a bit more
Hopefully !! each small scene (the black MDF bit)is designed to be removed from the display base (the oak bit) and fitted together on one base board the theory being not getting fed up with one massive epic of a model diorama
Barney
Very cool!
Looks good!
A bit more done
the other end
It keeps improving. Do you have anything to do with that? -- ssuR
Its inspiration that does it !!
its the spice of life
Nice work!
Great "inspiration" photos too. I really like the windows on the building in the second photo.
Great pics!
I love the old winch frame......... ::)
