Here are some images I ran across of Marcel Ackle's latest project.

That is really great art. I met Marcel several times on exhibitions and I learned a lot from him. Furthermore he is a really pleasant fellow.

Yes! He has the eye that sees, the mind that processes and the hands that reproduce.

I sometimes use a 4x5 view camera in the field. I especially enjoy the days when I "see" images to make almost everywhere. Some days I see nothing because it is just not right. It is a very internal and individualistic process.

I admit I have had problems seeing details to include in believable miniature, and have not thoroughly practiced the art of reproduced decreptitude because of this. But Russ' magazine/book and this forum have truly opened my eyes to possibilities and processes. I need to relax my pursuit of precision in my bridge project and model something for the sake of the art.

Thanks Marc

Carlo,
I don't know....I pulled these off his Facebook page, but he may have a thread going on one of the German forums like "Schmallspurtreff" or "Modellboard".......have not looked, but if I run across one I'll post the link.

Jacq,
That arm issue sounds serious....hope he is well.

EDIT:  Marcell does have an SBS going over on Schmallspurtreff (it's in German, naturally).

  marc,

QuoteThat arm issue sounds serious....hope he is well.
Last year he slipped in the garden, tried to break his fall and dislodged his left elbow, tearing dsome tendons.
He spend till October in plaster and needed extensive physio. The last time we met, he was nearly fully recovered.
The movement of his fingers was still an issue,  which was not having an influence on his modeling.
After that he had to catch up with a lot of work......

8-9 May we will see each other again and maybe later in Juli / August depending on you.  ;D ;D ;D

Here is Marcel's own website with lots of SBS on his modeling : http://www.feldbahn-modellbau.ch/ (http://www.feldbahn-modellbau.ch/)

Hell ,we're still hung over from last weekend . And it wasn't the heady brew that came in a bottle . Just the whole experience has kept us high . Of course , Alan is a bit that way inclined in any case , living , as he does, in Switzerland !

The Broom Makers Shop thread on the Schmalspurtreff forum (http://www.kostenloses-forum.com/board/besenbinderei-,nxu,01642644nx1878,t,3036,start,20.html) had a question about that paper in the window ..

Marcel Answered .. (translated by my Google Chrome .. more or less ..)

QuoteKlaus, photographed, I have reduced the newspaper with the printers on the yardsticks right size and then printed on cigarette paper, which has a thickness of 1 / 100 mm 10x thinner, like a normal copy paper. The paper thin I could crumple and tear therefore better.

I also have an additional info on the wooden beams. Earlier, I stated that I drilled the knots. In most of knots but I have re-established a branch in accordance zugeschnitzten ... above the windows so one branch is inserted to see relatively good ...   .

Gruss Marcel

and a bit later ..

QuoteI use my inkjet printer ... Laser could be emotionally better, because the color does not run ....

I print first on a normal A4 paper, cigarette paper stick to the exact spot of the impression and let the paper through the printer again. The cigarette paper is such that you otherwise used by itself to turn cigarettes ... this application is much healthier

If you stare long enough, there's a little fly that darts in and out of that window occasionally ...

And, I suppose he's modeling this in a rather contemporary state of decay ... cuz you don't see color photos in old newspapers ... but dang, that zig-zag newspaper does look right.

I was so impressed by the vines (well .. and all of Marcel's work of course) that I did a little research on the Birch 'leaves'. Posted to a model railroad blog. There's a link to another blog on the 'leaves'

Now thats cool.
My mind just went a little bit nuts though, given I have about 6 of those trees in my yard... and I started thinking about how many individual leaves are laying out on the lawn right now...and started thinking how they could be painted quicker than individually...and started thinking about how to glue them all in place individually...and  ::) ::) ;D

Always inspiring to see some new Marcel artistry...

Cheers,
Dan

Dallas, he prints the newspaper on "cigarette paper". Now you know what to do with all those old rolling papers from the '70s...

The patience needed to sort out, prep, paint and apply those birch seed parts is amazing. I wonder if DaKra Dave could make leaf patterns, or maybe complete vines like these? Twisting the leaves and then applying AC would give it a 3D look.

John --

Plus Model already offers lazer cut paper leaves sized for 1/35 scale:
http://www.milminwh.com/plus_models.htm

Joe Fix offers some organic materials ... first one looks a lot like the birch seeds ... which might be handy for those who don't have the patience or opportunity to gather them:
http://www.milminwh.com/joefix_p1.htm

Aber and others produce photo etched metal sets with all the leaves on the vines, ready to twist and paint, etc:
http://aber.net.pl/detal/desc/vine_064191217/

And look at the "Green Line landscaping" items here for laser-cut paper leaves, plants, etc:
http://www.fredericus-rex.de/shop2010/index.php

There's tons of stuff out there ... I'm looking forward to getting into the "outside, down-low" part of my project (one of these days) ... it'll be a challenge for to approach some of these materials as a "newbie" ... but the materials for some really neat scenic effects are there ...

PS -- A lot of the sites are international, if you want, you can search ebay for 1/35 leaves, plants, vines, flowers, etc, etc to give you an idea what's out there.  Then find the maker's name to search for on-line vendors.

Cheers,
Dallas

Skullcrafts (http://www.skullcrafts.com/leaf_scatter.htm) sells those birch catkin "leaves" pre-dyed in many colors. It's still labor intensive to apply the, but at least you don't have to paint them as well.
