I've begun work on a Red Caboose GP9 in Proto48. I've always wanted to detail the underframe so I've decided to give it a try. I'm using a custom milled steel frame for weight and wrap styrene around it.

Cutting the side skirts to expose the details and milling the plastic to thin it out. Hoping this looks more like sheet metal when done.

I sprayed the underside to expose any spots that need cleaned up. I'm hoping to start on the pipe details soon.

Very clean work, Shawn, looking good.

Thank you. I've just ordered 4 Magic Carpet drive from North West Short Line to hopefully give this the look and feel of traction motors. As for now, I've spent last night sketching pipe locations for the underframe.
