Just a quick note about a very promesing new feature in Sketchup 8:

I quote fro a blog: "Outer shell, [the new feature] to shrinkwrap a volume with a closed shell. This should be very interesting for Rapid Prototyping, when you need to export closed, watertight STL models."

This could very well be good news for those of us who use SU for .stl files. "Outer Shell" is what other 3D packages have been calling "Shrink wrapping".

And it also seems that that "Outer shell" is also implemented in the free version!

Cant wait to try this out myself.

I would be curious to hear your results, I tried using this feature as well as some of the other new features for solids, on my last set of parts, as well as something else I a drawing, and could not get them to work. All I ever got was an error message saying that some or all the parts were not solids. However neither CADSPAN nor PAP seemed to have a problem with mi drawing.

From my brief experience so far with this and the other solid features, they have proven to be nothing but frustrating......and when you get the message, SU gives you no way/tools to check your model and correct the supposed problem.  I personally think these features still need a lot of tweaking and refinement.
