Hi guys,

resulting from Volker's  exercise module thread I spent some time with a chair.

This is the first exercise chair in the guard's shack of the exercise module.

I

First I used imprinted grey millboard for the backrest.

Unfortunately the material wasn't too suitable for the following batch.

Those are failed backrests from millboard.

So I tried to imprint PS.

This is my tool for hot imprinting. One can clearly see the embossing punch.

I warm the material and the tool with a hot air blower.

First step: PS inserted in the warmed up tool.

Second step: Starting to build up pressure and simultaneously warming up more. You can see the warm deformed PS.

The upper fence is to secure identic imprinting depth. When everything's cooled down, the punch can be raised.

Right hand is the imprinted unfinished part.In the middle there's the coarse sawn part. Left hand is the completely sanded backrest.

This is what the finished backtests look like.

The swivel chairs from another point of view.

Swivel chairs batch ...

... in different settings.

All swivel chairs are full functional and adjustable as the prototype is.

28 of those self made washers are mounted in the chsirs. Guess where? Diameter is 1.1 mm with 0.5 mm drilled hole.

It's all done without 3D-printing. I used a 2,5 D CNC engraving mill and a lot of handiwork.

Have a nice day!

Very, very nice work!
Can we get some details on your mill?

but do the casters swivel and roll?  ;)

The tool is the most impressive of all (not that the suite of chairs aint cool).

3-D printing probably wouldn't have come even close to your superb results. -- Russ

Hi Paul,

I've got a Mimaki ME 500, which I was able to buy on good terms. Meanwhile the Mimaki isn't available anymore.

This is not the latest picture of the CNC workstation in my hobby room. The computer hardware meanwhile has been replaced completely.

Hi Martin,

all technical features oft he swivel chair work, naturally. I've already written about that in the forum in Volker's thread. But I'll be happy to present that in another thread. This one is only about embossing PS.

Isn't that a handy chair?

Kind regards

Beautiful result, and really wonderful to see the process and tools.

The stamped pieces are wonderful, but I am especially impressed by the detail on the casters!

On a critical note, it seems that both the yellow and green finishes could benefit from some color variation, layering of color tones followed by a unifying filter or glaze.  (The yellow and green parts just look like they've been painted in solid colors, and it seems like they would benefit from a little variation in coloring, highlights & shadow).  ;)

Nice work!

thank you guys,

in this thread it should go just the tool.
I think I have unfortunately already shown too much of the chair.
Without self-made tools, this model would not have been possible.
In addition, there are special Drilling jigs and a bending tool for the role holder.

So if you have any questions about the tools you will be happy here.

With the chair itself, it should then go to another place.
