water effects

After spending an evening watching Bogie and Hepburn's great performances in "African Queen" I built the little 20 footer kero fired steam launch you see below. The vessel is not however the focus of this writing nor is it any great modeling achievement. I did like the effects I got with my water here and wanted to share.
   After setting the plaster over 1/4" extruded styrofoam and doing much of the bank rocks I shot the entire diorama with Floquil earth. Followed by decanting Duplicolor transparent green into the airbrush and working it from a heavy coat in the center of the river faded to a light overspray along the edges. While still wet I grated black chalk into the center( the deepest parts).
   The initial pour of water is Vallejo "still water". When dry, I brush painted Woodland Scenics "water effects" thickly over all water surfaces. Then I gobbed a piece of saran wrap up and rolled it over the surface. I let this set up for just a short time and placed the boat, added some more for the bow wake with a brush and some for the prop wash , just 'puckering' it up a bit with my finger there. A dry brush of linen white acrylic on high spots (yes, dry brushing is alive and well still in my repertoire) and a brushing with Future finished what you see.
