My parents migrated to California during the Dust Bowl in 1932.  They were part of thousands of poor people who dreamed of Paradise but who found reality quite different.

I have always been fasinated by Hoovervilles.  My childhood home was 9 by 20 with no indoor plumbing.

It still stands today and is used as a chicken coop.
