I hope it's okay if I make an announcement on behalf of the GSL International Model Car Championship to take place in Salt Lake City, Utah May 2011.

I'm sure many of you are not familiar with this contest.  This is a major event, arguably the Super Bowl of model car and truck building, attracting competitors from as far away as Australia.  While the focus is on automotive subjects many of you have built models that would qualify.  I'm sure Gordon would do quite well with his scratchbuilt trucks.  Even Chuck's Fordson Farm would qualify either in the Misc. category or diorama.  The Red Oak garage would qualify for the diorama category and do very well I'm sure. I've seen several automotive themed dioramas here and they would all qualify.  Don't worry about scale, my 1/87 "Barn Find" diorama won an award in GSL 2009 and a 1/87 scale bus won 1st place in the small scale category.  Weathered subjects have done well in some of the categories.  A heavily weathered pickup won an award in the light commercial category in 2009. We have a lot of first class builders on this forum that have never been to GSL that I'm sure would do very well if they did.  Hey, you have nearly a year to prepare!  I'd love to see some of you show up.  Even if the idea of competition turns you off there is plenty of other activites to make the trip worthwhile.  Check out the links in the official press release and read up!

Thanks for posting GSL info on this Forum, David.  It definitely is THE model car contest in the country.
They don't cotton to purely model RR stuff, but anything auto-related (like, as you mentioned, Gordon's
and Chuck's builds) would really be great to see out there.
If you happen to enjoy vintage model cars and other related items, the Model Car Builders' Museum in Salt
Lake City is a great side trip during GSL, too.
