Where did you get the 1/32" square brass?

So far this is a super build.

Regarding a metal blackener, I have been mixing Hydrogen Peroxide and Muriatic Acid (available for cleaning masonry at home improvement stores) in a 20% to 80% (respectively) with good results on pot metals. A little scrubbing with a dish detergent prior to dipping seems to give more even coloration.

Nice job Craig, way beyond my capabilities but very interesting to follow your detailed work.
What's going on with the visor over the windshield?
Dec.10 photo showed some sort of holes in it and the current photo looks much better plain.

Like the way this is coming together Craig... the none-drilled visor is much better, other was too modern. The small sign board on the roof is a nice touch. Do you have anything planned for the bed of the truck?

Boom

ah! you can handle it!
Nice truck!

Yeah, c'mon Craig, the boom is the easiest part. Especially for trucks of that vintage since so many tow units were shop built affairs back then. I got so into them for a while there that I built about 8 tow truck models in a row. It nearly wrecked me.

Hmm, based on the size of the paper clip, I can't help thinking it's cute!  ;D

... and coming along quite nicely.

Craig, we all have faith in you. Looks like you're going for the Weaver Auto Crane. Here's a pic of the winch for that unit that you might find helpful. I have more if you'd like. Looks great so far.

marc_reusser

Craig,

Thats looking great.  Inspires me to get back on my long-stalled truck build.

For gears you could also have a look at Rio Grande Models...they have some white metal castings in HO, or right here in the forum outr very own Mr. "Vectorcut", makes a laser cut sheet of a variety od sizes and designs.
